I recently reviewed Dave Ramsey’s website. I started wondering if Dave Ramsey is a hypocrite while learned that he does not recommend filing for Bankruptcy. Dave Ramsey made the following statement on his website, “Yes, but I will still talk you out of bankruptcy if given the opportunity.” “Bankruptcy is not a place you want to visit” Does this sound like person that is taking an objective view of each individual on a case by case situation? I am not saying bankruptcy is the right solution for every person or for every couple or even every situation because it definitely is not always the best solution. I just have an issue with someone trying to scare people to death about filing for bankruptcy. Dave apparently had a terrible and life changing event when he filed bankruptcy. However, maybe it was because he didn’t realize the ramification of his actions at the time of his filing and the ramifications he would suffer down the road. Doing your research about bankruptcy and what to expect helps people cope with the unknown. It also helps the person filing bankruptcy take a candid look at their overall financial health or financial standing.
If you wake up one day and go file bankruptcy you should get slapped around a little, feel further uncertainty, and even be scared. Dave is right; bankruptcy should not be taken lightly. You should not be surprised that if you previously filed for bankruptcy and you go and apply for a credit card or home loan after bankruptcy and getting denied. People filing bankruptcy should expect to either be denied or receive a higher than expected interest rate which will make the debtors payments higher than expected based on their previous experiences with a good credit history. Conducting proper bankruptcy research the individual filing bankruptcy would comprehend the ramifications without receiving to many surprises.
I would also like to know if Dave is so concerned about your well being why does he offer pre and post bankruptcy classes? I sure know if something affected my life like he explains I would not offer these classes on my website and trying to make money off of the people I know are struggling. Dave also makes a considerable amount of money from his show and consulting services. It really makes me question why he focuses on not filing bankruptcy rather than making a sound business decision and filing after you have reviewed all of your options. If Dave wants to help people he should present an exhaustive bankruptcy planning guide which dictates when you should file bankruptcy to how you should pick out a bankruptcy attorney. This is especially true if you are living in Michigan there are several firms from which to pick a Michigan Bankruptcy Lawyer.
Dave Ramsey also offers classes on financial budgeting. I have heard some nice things about his budgeting methodologies and I am considering actually purchasing some of his budgeting software and books. This is only because I have heard and read good things about his system and techniques. Filing bankruptcy may not be the best solution for the individual reading this. However, you must be wary when a person outwardly tells you he will talk you out of bankruptcy as David Ramsey quoted above on Dave Ramsey’s website. Dave Ramsey filing bankruptcy does not necessarily make Dave Ramsey a Hypocrite. It does make me wonder if Dave Ramsey is a fear monger pimping is products at the expense of people who are struggling financially.
